Daily Ways to Nurture Yourself and Peace of Mind
    (Part 2 of 3)

    By Denise Michaels

Read a book with a cup of tea or cocoa

Go to a movie in the middle of the afternoon

Start using excellent posture and great eye contact. When you shake hands with people - shake till you see the color of their eyes. People will treat you better.

Go buy a cute pair of shoes

Write out what "My Perfect Day" would look like for you. In the midst of a rough time - this can be a healing exercise to get you back on track again.

Clean out a closet or a drawer and get rid of stuff that doesn't fit, is torn, stained or doesn't suit your personality any more.

Go to the mall and get something that does fit and suit your personality now.

Dress your best - unless you're doing housework or yardwork. Even if you're casual be coordinated and well groomed with nice accessories. Nothing sloppy ever. If you work at home you're not doing it for "the office" you're doing it for you.

Get rid of anything unflattering to your body. Shoes shined, nice make-up. People treat you better when you look nice and you'll feel better. This is important for all women but especially for plus-size gals. As a former size 22, I know.

Find a buddy and go for a hike in nature.

If you live in a winter climate - go outdoors and enjoy the brilliant sun dancing off the snow. Dress warmly and go for a walk.

Sit outdoors on your porch for 15-20 minutes to get a new perspective.

Take extra time doing your hair and makeup in the morning.

Get a new haircut and style. Tell the stylist about your life, your work and how much time you have in the morning. Let 'em do his thing. I've gotten my best haircuts this way. Stop clinging the the same ol' thing because it's comfortable. Step out on the wild side. Be open to adventure - it's only hair!
